199X-22

Posted by RedSoul92 - January 23rd, 2019

I wanna thank those listeners out there tuning in every podcast, I'm always happy to learn that this podcast is reaching people beyond my buenos aires studio. Being the 22 edition, a very symmetrical numbers that represents harmony, I decided to make this mix as harmonious as I possibly can by including old ambient songs that never got the chance of being released. Also to keep up with the symmetricality (?) I start and end the mini mix with matching melodies, clever huh?
Anyway, keeping up with the new habit of formmatting both of my laptops on January 1st I took the oportunity to go full Linux this time, yeah I know I'm gonna be missing lots of games and cool audio production software but I just feel more at home with ubuntu, so goodbye ableton hello bitwig studio. The hardest part for music production is not having the waves mercury bundle, specially the maximizer and the frequency spectrum analyzer but with a little practice I'll master the art of compression, in the meantime I'll just have to live with having iffy results, don't get me wrong, the mix sounds great but there are a couple of weird moments when the peak levels are constantly going up and down, particularly at the beggining of gripe, the second track.
Overture is the first track, and you can hear the distant voice of francisca y los exploradores's singer saying, quedate no te vayas de la fiesta (stay, don't leave the party), then after a  moment the song is over, the podcast is introduced and the gripe piano hits in, changing the place into a deep house atmosphere, it's a cool remix but my favourite still is the 199X remix at the end of 17. Going back to the ambient mood the song breaks and dissipates merging with montaña rosa, my personal favourite for this cast. I remeber playing this song at a small rave at 9 in the morning and how it transformed the place, of course it's not a song meant for full-on dancing but it still has that prominent four to the floor kick by the end, the melody is comforting and dreamy and the bassline seems to be ascending all throughout the song but then again, it is my top pick for this release. Moving on, going back to the industrial song, cara de neón, also known as Nadando En Mierda, a video uploaded on newgrounds some time ago and I thought it deserved a proper space here, in the podcast. The lyrics of this track talk about a trip gone wrong but also about overcoming insecurities and fears, purging and leaving the bad things behind, in other words, a story about digging yourself out of the shit. And last but not least a fun medley I used to karaoke over called social networks broken down in three parts; tinder la muerte del amor, searching your name on facebook is destroying my soul and  I'll try not to worry anymore about how many likes I get.
So without further adue here's twenty-two.
